The Moving Picture Institute's four-day cinematography workshop, Moving Picturecraft, educates filmmakers about how lighting, camera, and lens technologies can help them achieve their artistic intentions. This program is designed for aspiring and working DPs and directors.

Led by award-winning cinematographer Benjamin Gaskell, our cinematography fellows learn from award-winning American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) members, while getting hands-on experience with industry-standard camera and lighting systems.

apply to THE PROGRAM

Moving Picturecraft takes place in Los Angeles in June. Cinematography or film crew experience is a plus. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, this seminar is offered to filmmakers at no cost.

Due to the high volume of applications for limited spaces, we are unable to contact everyone who has applied. We will reach out to you if you’ve advanced beyond the initial stage. No calls please. We do not accept applications by mail.

I learned more in five immersive days of the Moving Picture Institute’s cinematography workshop than I would have expected to learn over a full semester at a graduate film school.
